Captain of State Police Troop L retiring after 30 years

Captain Lance King, the head of Troop L of the Arkansas State Police, is retiring, effective December 31st.

Captain King has been with ASP for 30 years. He was commissioned on September 21st, 1987, and promoted to captain on December 14th of 2007.

Liz Chapman, a spokesperson for ASP, says the captain of Troop L is responsible for supervising 45 people, and is the commander of Benton, Carroll, Madison, and Washington counties.

Chapman says until a successor is found for King, the department’s Highway Patrol Division commanders will oversee the troop.

In a letter to Captain King, Colonel Bill Bryant, the director of the ASP, said “Allow me to congratulate you on your retirement…Your years of service to the Arkansas State Police and the citizens of Arkansas have been greatly appreciated and you will be dearly missed.”

Troop L’s headquarters is located in Springdale.
