The latest wrinkle in Houston Nutt’s ongoing dispute with Ole Miss, which once employed him as football coach, is a new breach of contract lawsuit filed in state court in Mississippi.  An earlier complaint was filed in federal court, which said it lacked jurisdiction.

It says that Ole Miss breached its severance agreement with Nutt after his coaching tenure was ended when people associated with the athletic department made negative remarks about him. Specifically, various Ole Miss employees and others relying on Ole Miss sources blamed an NCAA investigation of recruiting misdeeds on Nutt’s days at Ole Miss, not on his successor, Hugh Freeze.

Nutt’s lawyer, Tom Mars, provided me a copy of the 88-page filing. For those interested in  SEC intrigue, Ole Miss flavor, including manipulation of reporters and social media, it’s interesting reading. Mars, among other points, emphasized what a good Christian Freeze was held out to be and how he branded football with a “faith-based” theme. He had feet of clay, apparently. In addition to the NCAA finding of rules violations, there’s the matter of his firing after discovery of an escort service phone number on his university cell phone.
