Judge Davis Comments on ex-County Employee’s Potential Misuse of County Credit Card

Late in the day on May 24, 2016, the Financial Department uncovered some financial irregularities with the county credit card and reported these to me. I immediately notified the credit card company, State Legislative Audit, the Prosecuting Attorney, the Sheriff, and the County Attorney. An investigation was initiated by the appropriate authorities and continues through the Prosecuting Attorney’s office and the Arkansas State Police. At that time, the termination process for this employee was initiated according to the steps outlined by counsel from the County Attorney and county policy.

I would like to comment at great length on this situation; however, this is an issue which continues to be under investigation. I can assure you that upon discovery of these irregularities, appropriate actions were immediately taken with full cooperation with the appropriate authorities. I am unable to discuss the details of this issue any further until the appropriate time. The insurance claim with the credit card company has been completed; however, there is a need to appropriate money as identified in your packet in order to avoid finance charges and fees and to zero out the remaining credit card balance. That is the task for this meeting.
