The six-acre site in the city of Montgomery, Alabama, will feature the National Memorial for Peace and Justice and include 800 columns, representing each county where racial terror lynchings have been documented by the Equal Justice Initiative.

More than 4,000 names of lynching victims will be inscribed on monuments.

“No prominent monument or memorial exists to commemorate the thousands of African Americans who were lynched during the era of racial terrorism in America,” the Equal Justice Initiative’s website says.
