A woman fatally stabbed her boyfriend in self-defense Friday night in North Little Rock, police reported Saturday.

Officers were called at 6:53 p.m. to a home at 3904 Susan Circle, west of Arkansas 365. They found Mark Andrew Crotts, 53, lying in the driveway. He’d been stabbed multiple times, according to reports

Police said Crotts was taken to Baptist Health Medical Center-North Little Rock, where he died from his injuries.

Officers searched the area of the stabbing for Crotts’ girlfriend, who had reportedly been seen fleeing his residence in a dark-colored Ford F-150, police said. They found her driving onto Interstate 40, just south of the home, and stopped her, police reported.

Department spokesman Sgt. Brian Dedrick said Saturday that detectives had questioned the woman and released her without filing charges. He said investigators believe she killed Crotts in self-defense.

Police had not released the woman’s identity late Saturday.

Dedrick said the woman had been in a physical fight with Crotts, but he did not have information on whether she’d been injured. He said the woman probably fled the scene of the killing because she was scared.

Dedrick said he did not have further details on the case.

An investigation is ongoing. The Police Department will submit its findings to prosecutors, who will ultimately determine whether the woman faces any charges.
