Governor Hutchinson is using his visit to Fort Smith to take a virtual tour of the upcoming U.S. Marshals Museum.

Using virtual reality goggles, officials are giving people a tour of the new national museum building. Governor Hutchinson will take his tour on Friday (Jan 12) at noon. Attorney General Leslie Rutledge and other state leaders will also take the virtual tour Friday.

CEO and President of the museum Patrick Weeks tells 40/29 News the VR tours give people a way to see the grand scale that’s planned for the building.

“Its immersive, its an experience, it allows people to see the enormity of the building,” says Weeks. “When you stand out on the site, especially now the building pad is out there, and to put the goggles on and be able to look up and down and see what it will be like on the site. Its powerful.”

Museum officials says they encourage more people to schedule tours and come see what the U.S. Marshals Museum will look like.

Construction will begin later in the Spring 2018. The museum is being funded by donations and fundraising still with the opening date in September 2019.
