Five Houston residents were arrested Wednesday after prescription medication was stolen from a Walgreens in Maumelle, according to the city’s Police Department.

Police responded at 4:02 a.m. Wednesday to a burglary alarm at the Walgreens at 115 Commons Drive, according to a news release from the Maumelle Police Department.

When officers arrived, they saw damage to the store’s front door and noticed a vehicle in the parking lot, the release said.

The vehicle, a silver Nissan Rogue, had Texas license plates and sped off, and police gave chase, according to the release.

The release said one person got out of the vehicle a “short distance” from the Walgreens and fled, while the others sped off in the vehicle.

More than a mile away from the Walgreens, the vehicle stopped at Millwood Circle and Ouachita Drive, where another person got out and ran.

Police said three people who remained in the vehicle were taken into custody. The two people who fled were arrested later Wednesday, the release said.

Those arrested were Tyrone Trammer, 31; Saleta Winn, 29; Malik Johnson; 19, Deanthony Roquemore, 20; and Ebony Kiffa, 30, according to the release.

All five Houston residents have been charged with commercial burglary, possession of instruments of a crime, possession of prescription drugs with intent to deliver, theft of property and fleeing, the release said.

Capt. Jim Hansard, a Maumelle police spokesman, said there was a “substantial” amount of drugs in the vehicle.

He said about 95 percent of the drugs were opiates, and police believe that medical prescriptions found in the vehicle were taken from the Walgreens. The burglars, he said, were going after prescription pills and medications.

Also Wednesday, Little Rock police responded at 5:11 a.m. to a burglary call at the Walgreens at 500 S. University Ave., according to a police report.

Officers arriving at the Walgreens, located in the Doctors Building, found rocks on the floor and broken door glass, according to a report. Authorities also found blood on the lobby floor.

Store video showed three people, who wore gloves and covered their heads, entering the building with a container, the report said.

Police said the thieves fled in a vehicle.

Hansard said it’s unclear whether the two Walgreens burglaries are connected, but Maumelle investigators were looking into it.
