Three ASU Students Missing in Blowing Cave Near Cushman Arkansas


Arkansas State University has identified the three missing students as a senior and two first-year students. Casey Sherwood, the 25-year-old senior, was leading Daiki Itoh, 19, and Daisuke Takagi, 18, both from Japan, on a spelunking trip in the Blowing Cave area near Cushman, a news release said. Sherwood’s wife, Katherine, called ASU’s campus police Wednesday night when the three did not return at their scheduled time, said Bill Smith, an ASU spokesman. Campus police then notified the Independence County sheriff’s office. The county’s emergency management office is searching for the students in the cave, the release said.
