As always, there is so much happening at the Baxter County Library. Here is just a few of the great programs, events and updates from the Library:

Heart of the Library award

The Baxter County Library is proud to announce Barb Skeffington as the recipient of the 2019 Heart of the Library award. Barb was presented with the award during a special donor recognition event held Oct. 17 at the Baxter County Library.

The Heart of the Library award is given to individuals who have shown leadership in support of the Library Foundation by giving of both resources and time. Skeffington has exemplified what it truly means to have a heart for the Baxter County Library, and the Library Foundation is proud to honor Barb in this way. Barb grew up in a rural area outside the Minnesota Twin Cities area. She was an educator for 30 years; first as a Home Economics teacher and later as a school counselor.

When she and her husband John retired, they decided to move to Mountain Home. Barb immediately connected with the Library and their vision for a new building. During the capital campaign for the new library building, Barb was a leader, making a substantial contribution to the campaign in memory of John.

With her gift, she joined the Nell Powell Wright Circle of Giving for those who have contributed $100,000 or more to the Baxter County Library Foundation. Barb served on the Library Foundation Board of Trustees from 2011 to 2014, and continues to support the Library through her membership and volunteer activities with the Friends of the Baxter County Library.

Her example of giving and volunteering is an inspiration for others and the embodiment of the Heart of the Library Award.

The Arkansas Arts Center Artmobile, one of only a handful of mobile art museums in the nation, has rolled into the Baxter County Library in Mountain Home, and is planning to stay until Friday.

The Spirit of Independence, the Arkansas Arts Center Artmobile’s 2019-2020 traveling exhibition, asks the question “What does independence mean to you?”

The Artmobile will be open to the community at the Baxter County Library, Monday to Friday during open hours. For more information about the Arkansas Arts Center Artmobile, contact Lindsey Knight, ArtsReach Coordinator at or (501) 396-0329. For more information about this community event, go to
