On December 1 around 11:30 pm, Officer Kevin Moore of the Hot Springs Police Department stopped to look at a silver Dodge pickup and found cocaine along with two other controlled substances.
Moore stopped to look at the truck on Alcorn Street after seeing it parked along the street with the front driver’s side door open. From outside of the truck marijuana and two handguns were in plain view.
After having probable cause and searching the vehicle, Moore found a marijuana cigarette. The marijuana in the vehicle totaled 0.9 grams.
Before Moore was finished searching, Austin Guthrie, 22, of Lakeland Drive in Hot Springs, came outside of the house the vehicle was parked in front of. Moore asked if the vehicle belonged to Guthrie and he stated that it did.
Moore placed Guthrie under arrest and continued searching the vehicle. He found cocaine residue on a plate in the front floorboard, two dollar bills also with the cocaine residue, and 14 Alprazolam pills, 1.7 grams, in the driver’s side door.
Guthrie was charged with three counts possession of drug paraphernalia for the plate and dollar bills, possession of a schedule IV controlled substance less than 4 ounces, and possession of a schedule IV controlled substance less than 28 grams.
Guthrie was also charged with two counts possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of drug paraphernalia and manufacturing a controlled substance on March 16, 2016. He was sentenced to 12 months of probation on June 19, 2017 for the 2016 charges.
