Public Release – LifeNet, Inc.
Yesterday evening we shared with you that the Malvern City Council voted to award the bid to LifeNet to continue providing ambulance service to the citizens of Malvern, Arkansas. Under challenge, the city has scheduled a new vote on which service will be awarded the ambulance contract. That vote will be held on Monday, June 17 at 6:30 p.m. at Malvern City Hall.
You may wonder why this decision was made.
After receiving the bids, the council members formed a committee to score them. Those scores were compiled last night, and LifeNet received the higher score in the bid evaluations. The council then voted 4-3 to accept the committee’s recommendation to extend LifeNet the contract.
There are eight people who serve on the Malvern City Council. After reviewing a challenge brought up during the meeting last night further, the City realized they were required to have a “majority” vote of the city council for either service bidding to be awarded the contract. This meant at least five people would have needed to vote in our favor to accept the committee’s recommendation to award LifeNet the contract.
We would like to thank the City Council and the Mayor’s Office for doing their due diligence to ensure both the fairness and the legality of the selection process. We have enjoyed working with them over the last five years, and we recognize the time and effort they have put into evaluating the EMS service options for the citizens of Malvern.
We also appreciate the support you have shown us throughout the bid process.
We will let you know on Monday night what the decision is coming out of the final vote.
