Arkansas State Police Trooper Tankersley investigated a single, large, articulated vehicle crash on Highway 7 North at the Fountain Lake Sonic Drive-In that closed the highway for a couple of hours the night of 6/5/2019.
Evidence at the scene showed that the northbound dump truck crossed the center line, exited the left edge of the pavement, struck a dirt driveway culvert and a large trash can, entered the highway, went left of center again, exited the right side of the pavement and came to final rest with the front end of the vehicle in the deep ditch. The trailer that was being pulled during the crash overturned completely blocking the highway. The trailer’s cargo (a large back hoe type vehicle) came off the trailer and was also blocking the highway. During the crash, utility lines were brought down and they blocked the highway as well.
A witness at the scene told me that a pickup truck turned from a driveway into the path of the dump truck and that’s possibly how the trouble began.
The Garland County Sheriff’s Patrol assisted as needed.
Fire Chief Steven Sawyer and his Fountain Lake Fire & Rescue Troops took charge of traffic, set a fire watch and otherwise assisted as needed.
No injuries were reported in connection to this event.
The highway was blocked and traffic was rerouted for at least a couple of hours.
