All suspects are presumed innocent until determined guilty in court.Early last month a theft report was made to the Hot Springs Police Department for a stolen .380 handgun. The gun was allegedly taken from the victim’s residence on Bloom Street in Hot Springs.
The report explains when the victim returned home that evening she allegedly went to retrieve her handgun from her room where she keeps it but could not find it.
The report states the victim made contact with Jamie Zacheriah Harris, 41, Homeless in Hot Springs. Mr. Harris had been allegedly staying with the victim and was supposedly present when the victim left her residence the evening of the gun disappearing. The report states that the victim says that Mr. Harris allegedly told the victim that he took her handgun because he and his girlfriend were fighting.
The report states the victim told Mr. Harris to return the handgun or she would call the police. Mr. Harris allegedly told her if she called the police he would never bring the gun back. The report explains after about thirty minutes the victim had not heard from Mr. Harris so they contacted law enforcement.
Mr. Harris has allegedly not returned to the residence since taking the handgun but the victims were reportedly able to locate him about a week later at a gas station on Central Avenue.
Mr. Harris allegedly told the victims that he placed the gun in a shoebox behind a church in the 200 Block of Higdon Ferry Road. The report states the victims checked the church area but did not find the weapon.
About a week later one of the victims reportedly located Mr. Harris again at the intersection of Central Avenue and Pakis Road. The victim allegedly demanded to know where the weapon was. The report states that Mr. Harris told the victim he moved the gun to a barn down a specific dirt road. The victim allegedly checked the area but could not find the location Mr. Harris described.
HSPD Detective Stillian arrested Mr. Harris on May 5th in the 1500 Block of Higdon Ferry Road
Mr. Harris was transported to the Garland County Detention Center for processing. He is charged with Felony Theft Of Property and Failure To Appear, with a bond amount totaling $4,500.
