Veterans Outreach Appreciation Picnic slated for Oct. 5

The 15th annual Veterans Outreach Appreciation Picnic is slated for 11-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at Arkansas State University-Mountain Home.

The event is open to all veterans, families of veterans, current military officers and families. The Kattie Laney Project will be performing for the event.

The picnic features a free menu food and beverages. A resource fair, giveaways and Recognition Awards will be conducted during the picnic.

Blevins to speak about Civil War Oct. 10 at Historium

Dr. Brooks Blevins, Missouri State University professor of history, will be at the Ozark County Historium in Gainesville at 10 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 10, to talk about his new Civil War book, volume 2 of his History of the Ozarks series.

Blevins is a popular speaker and his previous appearances at the Historium have attracted large audiences. The event is free and open to everyone, but seating is limited, so those attending are encouraged to come early to ensure they have a seat.

ABC’s and 123’s rescheduled Flippin Fling set for Oct. 5 at Flippin City Park

ABC’s and 123’s will host its third annual Flippin Fling on Saturday, Oct. 5, at Flippin City Park.

A 501(c)(3) non-profit, ABC’s and 123’s assists children and families in need throughout the Twin Lakes Area with clothing, personal items, school supplies and any other assistance we are able to offer. They also have a program to assist teenagers that wish to attend prom. In 2017, the group started a scholarship program for local students that will continue this year.

The event will feature business, craft and food vendors, along with events throughout the day. The Flippin Fire Department will also have a dunking booth.

Goodwill to hold hiring events for census workers, AID

The Goodwill Career Center in Mountain Home will host a hiring event for the U.S. Census Bureau from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday, Setp. 30, at the Goodwill Career Center, located at 759 Hwy. 62 E.

Hiring is now being done for census takers for full and part-time positions. Pay is $14 per hour with paid training and flexible hours. Workers must be 18 years old, pass a background check, have reliable transportation and access to a computer.

From 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, the Career Center will conduct a hiring event for AID Temporary Services, located 1219 Commerce Dr., Ste. 1, in Mountain Home.

AID is hiring for multiple positions in: assembly, clerical, machine operators and a licensed insurance agent. Pay varies and most positions are temp to hire. Please bring a driver’s license and Social Security card.
