Public Release – CRAIGHEAD COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE

Federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies joined forces this week during “Operation Summer Heat” to verify sex offender registration compliance in Jonesboro and Craighead County based on Arkansas Sex Offender Registration laws. The goal of this operation was to ensure that these targeted offenders are complying with all of their requirements and to ensure that no new offenses are being committed. The operation included officers from the Jonesboro Police Department, Craighead County Sheriff’s Office, US Marshal Service, and the Arkansas Department of Community Corrections.

Law enforcement teams received sex offender packets for each of the 139 offenders in Craighead County ranging from Level 1 to Level 4. Officers performed “knock and talk” compliance checks of individuals registered as sex offenders in their assigned region. If offenders were identified as non-compliant, the appropriate law enforcement agency investigated and charged the offender with appropriate charges.

The operation targeted 139 sex offenders supervised by the Jonesboro Police Department and Craighead County Sheriff’s Office, in addition to municipal jurisdictions located within Craighead County.

Of the 139 offenders in our area, 24 were located in Craighead County and 22 were found to be in compliance. Two were charged with failure to comply with registration requirements and one with improper address on ID card.

In the city of Jonesboro, 115 offenders were located and 93 were found to be in compliance. 24 were arrested for multiple offenses – 20 of which were for a sex offense, and 4 for Felony and Misdemeanor warrants.
