Wanted Person Allegedly Flees From Troopers With Small Child In Car; Felony Arrest – HOT SPRINGS

Story By Arkansas 911 News Chief Editor Paul Maddox

All suspects are presumed innocent until determined guilty in court.

Arkansas State Police Trooper Robbins was in the area of Shady Grove Road when he attempted to stop a small, white 4 door Chevrolet for an alleged traffic violation.  The vehicle allegedly failed to yield to the emergency vehicle and began to flee.

The driver led Trp. Robbins from the Shady Grove Road area east to Carpenter Dam Road where the suspect vehicle headed for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Expressway.  Other Troopers, including ASP Sergeant Oseguera quickly caught up and joined the pursuit as it entered the expressway.

Once On the expressway, Trp. Robbins executed a PIT (Pursuit Intervention Technique) Maneuver that was unsuccessful in stopping the suspect vehicle.  Following the PIT attempt, the suspect vehicle turned around and began fleeing in the wrong direction up the expressway into oncoming traffic.

The pursuit exited the expressway south on Carpenter Dam Road.  The parade blasted down Highway 290 to Highway 7 South, Albright Road, Thunder Road and Amity Road, reportedly reaching speeds around 80 Mph.  The suspect vehicle finally just came to a stop in the wrong lane in the 700 Block of Amity Road.

The driver was immediately arrested and an adult passenger was immediately detained (eventually turned loose at the scene without charges).  It was at this point that troopers noticed a child, approximately 7 years old, had been in the vehicle during the pursuit.

1 of the trooper cars pooped out during the chase and had to be towed from the scene.  I’m pretty sure it was some type of over heating issue.

Garland County Sheriff’s Patrol Sergeant Simpson got ahead of the chase and was in a great position to do a little intervention of his own just up the road, but the suspect had already stopped and surrendered before he could pounce with his gift for the suspect.

LifeNet dispatched an Ambulance Crew to the scene as a precaution.  No injuries were reported.

The driver’s pertinents were run through the police computer and she was found to have valid warrants for her arrest.  However, any potential charges stemming from this episode for the driver are unknown to me at this point.  I will attempt to get the arrest report tomorrow.  Or Monday.  Or next week.

The child was turned over to a family member that arrived at the scene.  Someone in the suspect vehicle, during the pursuit, had called and made arrangements for the child to be picked up at the stop location.

Holcomb’s Transport & Recovery removed both the disenchanted trooper car and the suspect vehicle from the scene.

Traffic flow was interrupted for approximately 1 hour.
